Are Joggers the new Jeans?

Alert! Style trend – Joggers!? I’m sure in everyone’s wardrobe you will find a pair of track pants (AKA “Jogger”). They come out when you’re painting the house, doing the housework, or nursing a cold at home. The cooler weather makes it hard to get dressed, so you naturally gravitate to warm, comfort dressing. Enter the Jogger.

But is there a place for wearing a Jogger outside of your home? Can they be worn out in public and be stylish? YES! It all comes down to how you style them. Here are a few tips for styling the Jogger:

Choose your Jogger wisely.

For the Jogger look, you want to go for a structured pair to transform the look for home slum, to smart casual. Generally, those made out of cotton and polyester give the Jogger a more structured look. Interesting details like vertical lines down the side, brand labelling, a print, or faux fur elevates the look.

It’s all about balance.

Joggers typically have an elasticated waist band and ankle cuff and are tapered down to the ankle. They still sit loosely unlike jeans. Team with a structured shirt or well fitted top to counterbalance the look.

Rock the expensive casual look.

Team the casual pair of Joggers and T-shirt with luxury items like a beautiful wool coat, leather crossbody bag or you new pair of adidas sneakers. This will instantly elevate your street style.

Play with genres.

I’ve mentioned that teaming the Jogger with a crisp shirt is one way to take the casual look to the next level. The same goes for mixing up the shoes – wear a Jogger with heels for an evening drink, or a leather jacket for a biker look. It makes your style look more considered and trendy.

Wear a matching set.

Nothing says chic like a matching outfit. If you go to buy a Jogger and see there is a matching set, then go for it. Look more refined by wearing a matching pair and get more outfits from having both pieces in your wardrobe.

Structure and flow.

Layering an outfit is fun, adds interest and can be flattering on your frame. Use the Jogger as your base piece and layer up. Add a vest, blazer, trench coat or whatever is your favourite item at the minute and layer up. Add a beanie for those colder days and accessorize with amazing sunglasses and there you are: styled!

Combine on trend pieces.

If you’re someone who likes to be ‘on trend’ then why not combine trend pieces with the Jogger. Chunky boots are big again this season, as is the humble trench coat. Combine the sneaker-sock street trend with the Jogger to fit your personal style.
