How to get dressed and feel good all day.

What we decide to wear can affect not only how you feel, but how you perform. Have you ever left the house feeling not quite right? Or been in a rush and thrown something on but then felt uncomfortable all day long? Did it effect your mood or your confidence?

If you are dressed right for the activities of the day, you are more likely to feel accomplished, perform better and be happier. Why not take advantage of that power? Here is how.

Plan ahead.

It’s simple but effective. Take the thinking out of getting ready in the morning and plan your outfit the night before. It will save you time and effort in getting dressed, and you won’t feel rushed or be in an anxious flurry when you open your wardrobe.

Get organised.

It seems like such a basic thing, but merely having a well organised wardrobe where items are visible and easy to find will make all the difference. Organise your shirts according to colour. Or put work clothes in one section and casual items in a different section. An organised wardrobe reduces complexity, meaning less decisions when getting dressed in the morning much easier.

The curated wardrobe.

Do you still have items in your wardrobe from another life? Has your style moved on from half this stuff? If the answer is yes, then perhaps you need a wardrobe clean up. A curated wardrobe means that all pieces in your wardrobe fit, can be mixed and matched, suits your personal style and current lifestyle. This will make the decision process in the morning much easier if you know everything suits you, fits you and works with your life. Bam, you’re ready!

Pick the WOW piece.

If you’re stuck: pick one piece you know you want to wear and work around it. Make that your WOW piece and everything else fits around it. Say, for example, you have a fab pair of print pants that you’re feeling that day. Put the pants on, then search for the shirt option. Then the shoes, the coat, the handbag, accessories and volah!

Dopamine dressing.

Let the mood of the day help you to decide what to wear. Assess how you feel that morning, open your wardrobe and let the items you are resonating with that day get you inspired. Feeling bubbly and joyful? Go for a bright colour. Block dressing is great for when you’re in these moods. Feeling more subdued and earthy? Why not try tonal dressing in more muted colours.
